Maxwell can acquire several upgrades during his adventure.
Upgrades the blaster to be able to fire more shots at once in automatic fashion (hold the B button).
A free upgrade acquired from Whippy on Zandunia. You usually pass Whippy on the No Jet route, but it is also possible to reach him on the
No Shield path.
Close combat weapon able to be used only in No Gun routes. Takes its charge from your shield, so you will be vulnerable for a brief moment after attacking! Is the only way to destroy the fast-growing Bamboo-like stalks.
Available once you've given Crox on Croxco Scrapheap ( No Jet route) all tough-guy items (including the Beam Unit and Laserblade Grip) and investigating the giant hole appearing.
Upgrades the blaster to be able to fire high powered shots that can destroy one-shot many enemies and destroy Obsidian blocks. You must charge the shot with the R button before firing with the B button.
An upgrade acquired from Whippy on Zandunia, this will require the Tibia you can get from Bones on Croxco Junkyard. You usually pass Whippy on the No Jet route, but it is also possible to reach him on the
No Shield path.
Upgrades the blaster to be able to fire shrink rays that can minify enemies, rendering them much less dangerous and much easier to kill. Especially effective on the large Mossbats. You must charge the shot with the R button before firing with the B button.
With reflective surfaces Maxwell can also be shrunk, enabling you to fit in small areas.
Required to enter the Bolly Nests or The Wurm.
An upgrade acquired from Stalk'n'Stem on Wytchberg ( No Jet route) in exchange for 100,000 (or 1,000) shards.
Upgrades the blaster to be able to fire warp bolts that can teleport Maxwell to teleport transceivers. You must charge the shot with the R button before firing with the B button.
The upgrade is acquired from one of the Totummy Citizens on Totummy Temple ( inside the temple, which opens after ringing all three Bells).
The Tele-GPS Chip can be added, which enables you to warp low-health enemies to the Zootel. You must charge the shot with the R button before firing with the B button (but only after the enemy is flashing green).
You get this upgrade from the Zookeeper at the Grand Zootel in exchange for 400 shards (you will then earn 250 shards per new beastie delivered to the Zootel, but must visit to collect it).
The drill can enable you to bore through the purple/maroon blocks (hard-rock and shard-rock, depending if it contains shards).
You get this upgrade in the Lunar Penitentiary in exchange for hard labour.
